Stingray Alerts Explained: Web and Telegram Delivery

Jul 21, 2026

Every personal Stingray alert includes web delivery. Link Telegram and start the bot DM to receive an additional message there.

Delivery at a glance

Stingray is a trading strategy builder. You describe a measurable market condition, review the generated rule, test it on historical data, and decide whether to turn it on.

Every personal alert includes web delivery. Telegram DM is added when your Stingray account is linked to Telegram and the Stingray bot has received /start in its DM.

WhatsApp and Slack connections are chat surfaces. Personal alert delivery uses web and optional Telegram DM.

Build and review the alert

1. Describe a measurable condition

Write the market, timeframe, thresholds, and repeat interval in plain English. For example:

Alert me when [instrument] closes above its prior 4-hour high and RSI is above 60. Wait 4 hours before alerting again.

Replace [instrument] with a supported market. The 4-hour wait is the cooldown, which sets the minimum time between alert fires.

2. Check the draft

Stingray converts the request into a structured rule and shows an editable preview. Check:

  • The instrument and data source
  • The timeframe and thresholds
  • Whether every condition or any condition must match
  • The cooldown between fires

If a field is wrong, revise the request and review the updated draft. The draft stays a preview until you choose to activate it.

3. Run the backtest

Run the historical test from the draft. Review the trigger count, trigger times, count after the cooldown, forward returns, and data coverage.

A large trigger count may mean the rule is broad. No triggers may mean the thresholds are too strict or the required data is unavailable for part of the test period. Change the rule and test it again before activation.

Use the Backtesting Methodology to check the result. The Trading Strategy Backtesting Platform Comparison explains which evidence to expect from a testing tool.

4. Activate after review

Activate the alert when the rule and historical behavior match what you intended. Stingray then monitors the selected conditions.

The trader decides what to do when an alert fires. Stingray does not place trades.

Web delivery is included

Web delivery is part of every personal alert, including alerts that also use Telegram. The alert details show which delivery channels are active.

When web is the only active channel, keep the browser open if you need to see the notification as it fires. Adding Telegram gives the alert a second delivery channel.

Add Telegram DM delivery

Telegram is optional. A personal alert can be created and used with web delivery alone.

To add Telegram DM:

  1. Open the connected channels section in Stingray settings and choose Telegram.
  2. Open the displayed Stingray bot link. If Stingray shows a link code, use it exactly as displayed.
  3. Send /start in the bot DM. The link may fill the command for you.
  4. Return to Stingray and confirm that DM delivery is enabled.

Linking the account and starting the bot DM are separate checks. If the account is linked but the bot has not received /start, the alert continues with web delivery and no Telegram DM is sent.

Control repeat alerts with a cooldown

The cooldown sets the minimum time between alert fires. With a 4-hour cooldown, the same alert cannot fire again until at least 4 hours after its previous fire.

The backtest shows how the cooldown changes the trigger count. Increase the cooldown when repeated matches create too many messages. Reduce it when distinct market events are being grouped too closely.

Pause and resume an alert

Pause an active alert when you want it to stop monitoring without deleting its rule. Resume it later to use the same saved alert again.

You can use the control on the Alerts page. If you ask Stingray in web chat, confirm the proposed change before treating the status as updated.

Troubleshooting

| What you see | What to check | | ------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Web works, but Telegram is missing | Confirm that Telegram is linked, the bot DM received /start, and DM delivery shows as enabled. | | Telegram says setup is incomplete | Open the Stingray bot DM, send /start, return to Stingray, and refresh the connection status. | | The alert fires too often | Increase the cooldown or tighten the rule, then run the backtest again. | | The alert does not fire | Confirm it is active, inspect whether the rule matched, and check data coverage in the backtest. | | You need delivery in another service | Personal alerts use web and optional Telegram DM. WhatsApp and Slack chats do not receive them. |
