BERA is the native gas token of Berachain, a high-performance EVM-equivalent Layer 1 blockchain built on the Polaris framework and the CometBFT consensus engine. It serves as the primary asset for transaction fees and is a central component of Berachain's dual-token economy. BERA is utilized within the novel Proof-of-Liquidity (PoL) consensus mechanism, which aligns incentives between validators, liquidity providers, and developers. Originally originating from an NFT-related project (Bong Bears), BERA transitioned into a foundational utility asset used for staking and network security.
