About Gemini Dollar
The Gemini Dollar (GUSD) is a regulated, fiat-backed stablecoin issued by Gemini Trust Company, LLC. Launched in 2018, it is strictly pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar and is overseen by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). GUSD combines the creditworthiness and price stability of the U.S. dollar with blockchain technology, operating primarily as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network. U.S. dollar deposits backing GUSD are held at U.S. banks and are eligible for FDIC "pass-through" deposit insurance. The token's cash reserves are examined monthly by independent accounting firms to verify the 1:1 peg, and its smart contracts have been audited by security research firms like Trail of Bits.
