About Cosmos Hub
ATOM is the native utility and governance token of the Cosmos Hub, which serves as the central economic heart of the Cosmos network—often called the "Internet of Blockchains." The Cosmos Hub is a multi-asset distributed ledger that facilitates interoperability between independent blockchains (zones) using the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol and Tendermint BFT consensus. ATOM has three primary functions: it is used to pay transaction fees (spam prevention), it is staked to provide economic security for the Hub through a Proof-of-Stake algorithm, and it serves as a governance token for voting on protocol upgrades and community proposals.
