About DigiByte
DigiByte (DGB) is a highly scalable, peer-to-peer digital currency and open-source blockchain launched in early 2014. Originally a fork of Bitcoin, it has evolved into a multi-layered ecosystem supporting digital assets, smart contracts, and decentralized applications. The network is notable for its high security and speed, utilizing five different cryptographic algorithms (Sha256, Scrypt, Skein, Qubit, and Odocrypt) to prevent mining centralization and ensure ASIC resistance. With block times of approximately 15 seconds, DigiByte offers significantly faster transaction confirmations than Bitcoin or Litecoin. The project is entirely community-driven and volunteer-based, having never conducted an ICO or significant pre-mine. Its ecosystem includes the DigiAssets protocol for asset issuance and Digi-ID for secure, passwordless authentication.
