TAO is the native utility and governance token of the Bittensor network, an open-source protocol that powers a decentralized, blockchain-based machine learning network. Within this ecosystem, TAO is used to reward participants, such as miners and validators, for the informational value and computational power they contribute to the training and operation of machine learning models. The asset features a fixed total supply model similar to Bitcoin and grants holders access to the network's collective intelligence, allowing them to tune activities to their specific needs and participate in the decentralized governance of the platform. The protocol operates on a unique consensus mechanism called Proof of Intelligence (PoI), rewarding participants in direct proportion to the value they add to the repository of machine intelligence.
