About Kusama
Kusama (KSM) is the native utility and governance token of the Kusama network, a scalable blockchain platform built using Substrate and the same codebase as Polkadot. Functioning as a "canary network," KSM is used by developers to test and deploy experimental features, parachains, and upgrades in a live economic environment before they transition to Polkadot. The token is utilized for staking to secure the network via a Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) consensus mechanism, participating in on-chain governance votes, and bonding to support parachain slot auctions.
