About Stellar
XLM (Stellar Lumens) is the native utility asset of the Stellar network, a decentralized, open-source blockchain designed to facilitate low-cost, near-instant cross-border value transfers and multi-currency exchanges. Within the ecosystem, XLM serves as a bridge currency to provide liquidity for asset pairs and acts as an anti-spam mechanism through small transaction fees. Founded by Jed McCaleb in 2014, the network utilizes a unique consensus mechanism known as the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) and relies on 'anchors'—trusted entities that issue credits for off-chain assets—to enable interoperability between traditional financial systems and digital assets.
