About Polkadot
DOT is the native utility and governance token of the Polkadot network, a scalable heterogeneous multi-chain platform that enables cross-blockchain transfers of data and assets. The token serves three primary functions: securing the network through a nominated proof-of-stake (NPoS) consensus mechanism, facilitating network governance by allowing holders to vote on protocol changes, and bonding to connect custom blockchains known as parachains to the Polkadot Relay Chain. As a Layer 0 technology, Polkadot allows diverse blockchains to share unique features and pooled security while transferring messages and value in a trust-free fashion.
