About IRYS
IRYS is the native utility and governance token of Irys, a Layer 1 datachain that integrates onchain data storage with smart contract execution. The token is used to pay for storage and execution fees within the network, as well as for validator staking. Irys utilizes the IrysVM, an EVM-compatible execution layer, to make data programmable, offering both temporary term storage and permanent storage options. The network is designed for horizontal scaling, where validators maintain assigned data partitions to ensure instant retrieval and economic sustainability.
