About Peercoin
Peercoin (PPC) is a decentralized cryptocurrency launched in 2012, notable for being the first to implement a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Inspired by Bitcoin and sharing much of its source code, Peercoin utilizes a hybrid PoS/PoW system to achieve energy efficiency and long-term sustainability. The network is designed as a base-layer settlement system, focusing on security and decentralization while supporting second-layer protocols for tokens and smart contracts. Unlike many other early assets, Peercoin has no hard cap on its supply, instead targeting a 1% annual inflation rate, which is offset by a deflationary mechanism that destroys transaction fees.
