NFT
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are tokens where each unit is unique and tied to a specific digital asset: art, collectibles, in-game items, or real-world claims. Tokenpedia tracks 117 assets in this category.
NFTs use the same standard underneath as fungible tokens (ERC-721 on Ethereum, similar on other chains), but each token has a unique ID and metadata. The category covers profile-picture collections (Bored Apes, Pudgy Penguins, CryptoPunks), generative art (Art Blocks), gaming items, music rights, and tokenized real-world goods.
NFT-related tokens in Tokenpedia include marketplace tokens (Blur, LooksRare), infrastructure tokens, and metaverse tokens (ApeCoin, Sandbox, Decentraland). These are different from holding the NFTs themselves; they are claims on the platforms that trade or display them.
The market peaked in 2021-2022 and has cooled since, but the underlying tech now powers serious use cases (Uniswap V3 LP positions are NFTs; Curve, Aave, and Pendle all use NFTs to represent positions). When evaluating an NFT-adjacent token, the questions worth asking are whether the platform has staying power, what fraction of fees flow to the token, and whether the NFT volume is organic or wash-traded.
